Love this. What’s it about summer and Dove? The Watch pod did a great Summer of Dove series during the pandemic. One of my favs, as well as the Last Picture Show (the novel > the movie if you can imagine)

I started Lonesome Dove (the book) on July 1st and have read nothing else since. Holding off on watching the miniseries until I’ve finished, which should be in another week or two. I was surprised by how funny the book is, and have been dog-earing pages with my favorite quips. “This was a two-bit town when I left, and it looks to have lost fifteen cents since then.”

Great write up; glad you took the dive. I recommend also checking out the work of his son, the great musician James McMurtry…his storytelling is arguably on par with his father’s, just in a different medium. Complicated Game is a good one to start with. http://bit.ly/479lNyn
