Hey Todd!! Great piece. Look at John Deere or many auto manufacturers now. If you try to fix it, wham; warranty gone. If you can EVEN try to fix that is, as the modular systems require specific company owned software just to troubleshoot problems. That’s the box you spoke of. Older autos are fetching high prices not just to collectors, but those who prefer that right to repair them. Then there’s the logistical ie parts support of older vehicles problem. Recently I was thinking what would it take to build an auto company that made say, 2 vehicles. Compact 4 cylinder car and small utility truck. Zero electronic modules, strictly old school. Imagine the demand, then imagine the corporate warfare/lawfare etc that would come at said company? Ugh.
