As a full time musician, producer and devotee of great sounds I am bombarded with YouTube videos and articles in the guitar press. It's overwhelming. Turning professional at 17 I have seen the whole industry mushroom into a theatre of consumption targeting the hobbyist and bedroom player. This isn't bad, there are worse things to be doing than making music regardless if it's for public or private consumption. Art is good for the soul.
The DIY element is also great as it really shows the amount of bullshit there is out there: more power to their elbow. There is an great satisfaction in making something then playing through it. Brian May being the classic example.
Huh, I used to make my own effects boxes back when I was a teenager.
