Nice overview! I'd suggest taking a look at the Engine Simulator project; it's only a year on and the software can not only model multiple engine types with accurate physics—and output authentic sounds—but an EV motorcycle manufacturer is experimenting with integrating it into their bike's systems. To me, this is "game changer" software that will probably (eventually) be licensed to many EV makers…it's that good.
I’m ok with having Hans Zimmer take over engine sounds; now if they can get Christopher Nolan to go to work on the speedometer, this could get real interesting.
