You should look at the Hawaii based company Activaire, a company born by two architects who are also music aficionados who are dedicated to exactly this concept of “space” being not just physical surroundings but auditory experience.

HI! I am a new subscriber, and I have gotten the last few editions of your blog...really LOVE this particular one. A salient and relevant observation about the quality of sound in our lives and this pretty noisy world we live in. I LOVE the playlist that Sakamoto created for that restaurant. (I don't live in NYC and so probably won't ever get to eat there , however this is definitely an issue in many restaurants and public spaces.) I carry earplugs with me all the time now actually , and earphones too. I have been dumbfounded many times at the apparently careless and sometimes conflicting soundtracks I have come across in various places. It mystified me that those running the space were not conscious of the quality or lack of it to their background sound choices...Thanks for this calm lovely thought in this crazy world. Happy Friday.
