Lovely point of view. My mother impressed upon me at a very young age that you must never go out of the house without at least a swipe of lip color. It's stuck with me and to this day, I am a steadfast and daily lipstick gal. However, we can become crazily attached to that "just right" color or brand of lipstick or gloss. I was recently devastated to find that my favorite color and formulation has been completely discontinued. First-world problem to be sure, but I am hunting for it everywhere to no avail. Le sigh.
The cultural "rules" we've been taught about makeup are so fascinating. As I was writing this, I began to think, "wow, a lot of my brain cells are involved in thoughts about lip gloss!"
There's not a handbag I own that doesn't have at least one lip gloss/lipstick and one lip balm in it. I just leave them in there, when I take out the handbag, it's like seeing old friends.
I have cups of lipglosses in my bathroom, more in my car, lip balm in the coat pockets of my jackets. It's a cheap thrill, always looking for a new favorite, different shades of pink, coral, vampy burgundy.
My kids have grown up knowing to keep lip balm in their backpacks, my daughter now has cups of lip gloss of her own!

I'm sorry for your loss, Margaret. ;)

Ooops, also the "old friends." Second that!
Every. Room. In. My. House. I thought about counting up how many I own in total, and maybe I still will, but I didn't want to call myself out. Ha.
I also have cups of them! Vintage cups, homemade ceramic mugs, etc. They add to it. It's an art, right?
