I had a similar, and similarly energizing, experience last spring. I was in Philadelphia to see a show on the Unwound reunion tour. Most of the crowd was my age—mid-forties—and happy to see an old favorite again. But standing next to me before the set was a group of about seven teenagers. When they asked each other how they knew of the band, one said, "I was listening to Sonic Youth and the Spotify algorithm suggested them." I felt momentarily distant from them because of that experience, but once the set began and they sang along to every word, that feeling dissipated. I’m so happy that enthusiasm like theirs has allowed Unwound to have such a successful tour that they're playing more shows next year (and, I hope, eventually recording some new material).
