I can completely empathize with this experience of "Traveling through Bookstores." I also have (had might be more accurate) a deep love for both soccer and skateboarding. I grew up doing both until I got to college and basically had to put the board down to ensure I wouldn't hurt myself and ruin my college soccer career.
Magazines offered such a special access point to the amazing worlds that seemed just out of reach. Interestingly: part of the time growing up I lived in Germany (in the 90s) and was very disconnected from a lot of American culture. But the nearby bookstore stocked Transworld Skateboard, which kept me linked to what was happening back in the states...even if the issues were usually 5 months behind by the time they reached the local racks!
