Where I live a "bug-out bag" is standard issue. (Military refence pun intended.) Because of the wildfires in 2020 in my corner of the known cosmos, that blackened more than 500,000 acres, and how fast they can move, the bug-out bag is all but mandatory. Many people I know, who are "mountain strong" - they live in the mountains and foothills - keep their bug-out bag in their vehicle and are ready to go at a moment's notice.
Nowadays everyone should have a bug-out bag and dry goods laid in.
I get that a Go bag should be low key, but a Jansport backup isn't going to hold what you need for 72 hours nor will it be comfortable for hauling that kind of weight over any distance. Would a weekender hiking backpack in a muted color be a good choice?
Great story!
